Anna Clementa Foley Malone

My beloved Aunt Ment as I remember her.

Anna Clementa Foley was born on September 9th, 1890, the first child and daughter of Albino and Mary Foley. I do not remember anything that I may have been told about her childhood and growing up in Newcomb.  Based on a few photos I have of her, she was expected to take care of her younger siblings.
She married Charles "Charley" Malone who was a little younger. She was just 20 years old when she had her first child. I am not aware when she married Charley but must have been before 1910.  I have heard a story that says Grandpa Foley (Albino) told Charley he could have her, he could not handle her anymore.  He (Albino) must have thought well of Charley because Aunt Ment and Charley lived in a house right next to his and I surmise he gave them that.  I do not know who built or when it was built.  But they lived in that house for the rest of their natural lives.

There are two things about my Aunt Ment that have lodged themselves in my mind.  One is the incredible cook that she was. I do not ever remember going to her house and not eating.  Her table was always full and there was no way you would walk away hungry. I can can still taste her new potatoes in a bowl of cream gravy.  I think I would walk from here in Florida all the way to her house in Newcomb if I could have some more of those potatoes.

The other thing about her was her absolute belief in the supernatural.  She talked a lot about that and of course to a kid it was scary.  She always mentioned about seeing a "little man" standing outside her window.  Some of my family believed she thought she was seeing my Grandfather Albino.  When she visited us in Indianapolis, she wanted to visit a seer and I think she did but I do not remember her commenting on that. After growing up and experiencing some things, I no doubt think she had some gifts.
